KARO the 2013 footy

This is a project wich is expected to raise some interest for footy sailing here in Slovenia.
The result is going to be a boat wich is replacing my old footy design spade, wich was a lightweight, 350g, design that sailed well upwind but suffered downwind. it scored an 8th place finish at the footy gold cup in sestriere.
Spade:

Over the winter I have been thinking over the different concepts of a footy boat, and finaly i have decided to go for the double diagonal design, this is a design that fits in a footy box like this:
only bowdown.

This is how the 34cm waterline and the high "anti stoping" bow were achieved.
I set myself the basic goals for the KARO:
-good upwind balacne -->narow stern, clr-ce alignment
-small loss of speed when nosediving -->high bow, long rudder
-weight around 500g
-air build of 4 pannels(depron)

For this one I trew away most of the calculations. I played with depron sheets till the round rocker hull had some 500g of displacemend, then drew a sail, and aligned the clr-ce..
..soon the first prototype was finished, here pictured with a bulb wich is too long(doesnt fit in the box) but for the first test it was ok.

Soon the rudder turned out to be stallish, so i changed to one with a longer chord and 12% thickness.
The sail above proved to be ok, but becouse of it's low aspect ratio and the stiff material(kimoto vinyl) it didn't twistand depower . Becouse of that the boat didn't "read" the wind and was "kicked" by the gusts. An new rig was devised, basically redoing the spade rigg. The a rig measures some 1300cm2 and is good up to 12-13knots of wind.
Below, the second boat, slush, the final shape of mk1 Karo model.

I was really impresed by airbuilding hulls with depron, but after a month the boats started to get all wobolly, not stif anymore, so dispite the simple shape a moul will be made.

Now the mould is in the lamination proces, and by the begining of the next week first carbon hull will hopefully pop out.
